How to Identify Acid Base Property of Soil (Part 1)

1.Soil source judgment

The soil in the mountains and forests and the humus in the ravines are generally black or brown soil, which is relatively loose, fertile, and has good permeability. It is a very good acid humus. Such as: pine needle humus, peat humus, etc.

2. Judgment of surface plants

When collecting soil samples, you can observe the plants growing on the surface. Generally, the soil for growing pines, fir plants, and rhododendrons is mostly acidic soil; while the soil for growing millet, sorghum, and sorghum is mostly alkaline soil.

3. Soil color

Acidic soils are generally darker in color, mostly dark brown, while alkaline soils are mostly white, yellow and other light colors. In some saline-alkali areas, the soil surface often has a layer of white saline-alkali.

4. Judging acidic soil and alkaline soil by feel

Acidic soil is generally soft in the hand. After loosening, the soil is easy to disperse and is not easy to agglomerate. Alkaline soil feels firm in the hand, and it is easy to agglomerate after being released.
